Volunteer Spotlight – Reg
Reg has been volunteering for the AIU for over ten years. He has attended over 400 scans as a volunteer, and his partner has also volunteered 40 times. Reg says “All the girls are gorgeous and beautiful. When the AIU had a group of international heart specialists fly in from Boston General, Reg was brought in especially to show off the “good subcostal view” of his heart.
Reg has had a full life starting out as a grocers assistant before joining the army, which was then followed by a long career as a taxi driver during which he covered 6 million kilometres. At 83, Reg is still actively involved as a volunteer at the AIU and credits the team for spotting serious health issues during routine scans.
Although we are a teaching facility rather than a formal diagnostic service we do, of course, offer volunteers the option to have a letter written to their doctor when we see something different to what we expect or of concern. Reg says “I believe in Ultrasound. It’s saved my life twice by detecting problems early on, and I’m grateful to the team at the AIU.”
