Program Description

This three-day program has been designed for surgeons, surgical trainees & procedural physicians who aim to incorporate point of care ultrasound techniques into their clinical practice. There is an emphasis on the practical aspects of covered topics with comprehensive "hands-on" tuition, led by experienced team of expert sonographers. Low student/tutor ratios ensure comprehensive practical tuition in a personalised fashion. For practitioners who aim to be accredited by the Australian Society for Ultrasound in Medical Practice (ASUM), this workshop covers the following Certificate of Clinical Performed Ultrasound (CCPU) units: physics, E-FAST, biliary, hydronephrosis & caculi and vascular access.

Program Content

  1. Physical principles of ultrasound and ultrasound machine optimization
    1. Practical physics of ultrasound
    2. Artifacts
    3. Basic knobology
    4. Necessary equipment criteria
    5. Probe manipulation techniques
  2. Abdominal ultrasound scanning techniques
    1. Extended Focused Assessment With Sonography for Trauma (EFAST) including Pneumothorax
    2. Renal tract ultrasound
    3. Biliary tract  ultrasound
