ASUM CCPU - Certificate in Clinician Performed Ultrasound 

The CCPU is a credential awarded by the ASUM Council to medical practitioners who are not imaging specialists but who may use ultrasound as a diagnostic tool at the point of care. The CCPU represents a level of proficiency in image acquisition, optimisation and ultrasound skills relevant to the specialty medical area. 

In general, each unit consists of:

  • An online physics and image optimisation unit
  • A specialty course: usually 1-2 days of lectures and practical training taken with an accredited course provider
  • Logbook completion: A number of scans must be recorded
  • Two formative assessments
  • Final assessment by an approved assessor

  • Proximal Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

AIU is accredited for the following ASUM CAHPU Units

  • Extended Focussed Abdominal Scan for Trauma (eFAST)
  • Basic Early Pregnancy Assessment
  • Vascular Access
  • Basic Soft Tissue Ultrasound for ED

All AIU Students receive access to the online Physics unit FREE OR CHARGE and access to the AIU Global Learning Community (GLC) for 12 months from their course date.  The GLC allows learners access to pre-reading, pre and post course quizzes, eLearning resources and access to the image review portal.

Credentialing and Image Review

This facility is offered on a one-on-one basis and is designed for those individual Point-of-Care Ultrasound practitioners who are not involved in a formal hospital credentialing program but wish to take advantage of expert review of their ultrasound cases. 

Upload to secure portal

Each user will be assigned a personal login to the AIU Credentialing Portal, which is secure and private. It is intuitive and easy to use, simply locate the images you wish to be reviewed and click upload! 

Expert Review

One of our expert faculty will review each image and communicate their opinions on the technical aspects of your scanning with many tips and hints on how to improve your scanning skills.

Individual Logbook 

Each user will have their images and cases saved in a secure logbook format for use in future credentialing (departmental) or accreditation (e.g. CCPU) endeavour.
